Oz Halloween Costumes are Popular Today Thanks to the Original Actors

Based on L. Frank Baum's fairy tale "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" the movie itself is a classic with amazing special effects, colors, acting, and Oz costumes, especially considering that the movie was made in 1939. The main characters were: Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland), an orphan girl of about twelve who lives with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry on a farm in Kansas. Dorothy has a dog named Toto (played by a terrier named Terry) who bit the stern Almira Gulch (Margaret Hamilton, who later appears in a Wicked Witch of the West costume). The three farm hands that Dorothy befriends are Hunk (Ray Bolger, who looks fabulous in his scarecrow costume), Hickory (Jack Haley, who wears a TinMan costume), and Zeke (Burt Lahr, in a Cowardly Lion costume). Professor Marvel who also doubles as the Wizard of Oz is played by Frank Morgan. Appearing in a sparkly pink Glinda costume was "Billie" Burke. With such great characters to dress up as, it is no wonder that Wizard of Oz costumes remain so popular today!

Would a Remake of The Wizard of Oz Be Successful?

The Wizard of Oz  can truly be considered one of the most popular movies of all time. At the time of its release in 1939, it won two Academy Awards and has even been considered to be the movie with the most memorable sound tack in history. It's easy to see why— who can't hum along with "Somewhere over the rainbow" after all?! Of course the color and Oz costumes were fabulous for the time period, so it's no wonder the production continues to be praised even to this day. In fact, over the last 70 years, the film has been watched by millions, if not even billions of people all over the world. No one— not the initial producers or actors — dreamed that the movie would have had such tremendous success.

There are now rumors that a new movie based on L. Frank Baum's original fairytale is planned for 2011. Although no one is using the word "remake" of course it will   have many similarities, and all those involved hope that the Oz costumes and acting will garner great success at the box office just like the original did in 1939 and all the years since. Having millions of true fans already is a huge advantage for any new movie. So even if it turns out to be a mediocre film, the production houses will probably profit.
